If the district has applied Gradebook templates to all courses at the school or for particular courses, the template may populate assignment categories as well as specific assignments into the Gradebook. The district may allow or restrict teachers from adding additional categories and assignments into the Gradebook, and may allow or restrict teachers from modifying and deleting the categories and assignments populated in the Gradebook. The district may allow or restrict teachers from adding additional standards to assignments, and may allow or restrict teachers from removing standards from assignments that were populated by the template. Administrators who accesses a teacher's Gradebook in the Gradebook teacher program have the same restrictions as teachers, but may detach a category from the template, or detach all categories at once.
If the district has applied a Gradebook template to the Gradebook, the title of the template will display at the bottom-left of the screen when viewing the Category or Assignment tab.
The categories and assignments from the template will be displayed in the Gradebook. At times, the district may sync the template with the Gradebook, and so the Gradebook will be updated with any changes the district made to the categories and assignments from the template. This includes any additional or updated categories and assignments.
If the template prevents teachers from adding additional categories, "Locked by Template" will display in the Categories tab, and the buttons to add a new category or import a category will be removed.
If the template prevents teachers from adding additional assignments, clicking the plus sign to add a new assignment will display the following message.
If the template allows teachers to modify the categories populated by the template, click the Edit button on the category, and edit or delete the category from the Gradebook.
If the template does not allow teachers to modify the categories populated by the template, clicking Edit on a category will display the category setup fields, but they will be grayed out and cannot be edited, with the exception of the "Automatically Drop Lowest __ Grades" option, which may be set by the teacher or administrator. The category cannot be deleted.
The district may give teachers or administrators permission to change the color of the category populated by the template with the "Edit Template Category Color" permission for the Gradebook or Gradebook teacher program.
If the template allows teachers to modify assignments populated by the template, you can click the i button on the assignment and edit any of the assignment fields. The assignment can also be deleted from the Gradebook.
If the template does not allow teachers to modify assignments populated from the template, the assignment title, Points, Questions, Category, Description, and Marking Period on the assignment will be read-only and cannot be edited by the teacher or administrator. The assignment also cannot be deleted.
The district has the ability to repopulate template categories and assignments into the Gradebook if they were modified or deleted. See Using the Excl Link for more information.
If the template allows teachers to add standards to assignments populated by the template, click the Standards tab when viewing the assignment and add standards as needed.
If the template allows teachers to remove standards from assignments populated by the template, click the Standards tab when viewing the assignment and remove standards as needed.
If the template allows teachers to both add and remove standards from assignments populated by the template, click the Standards tab when viewing the assignment and add and remove standards as needed.
If the template does not allow teachers to add or remove standards from assignments populated by the template, then you will not be able to see the Add or Remove options.
Administrators have the ability to detach a category from the template or detach all categories from the template within a teacher's Gradebook. This removes the restrictions placed on the category or categories by the template, allowing teachers and administrators to add, edit, and delete categories and assignments in the Gradebook.
1. Click the Category tab at the top-left of the screen.
2. Click the category to view.
3. Click Detach Template.
4. To detach all categories from the template, click Detach All Categories at the bottom of the screen.
The template is detached, and the template title no longer displays at the bottom left corner of the screen. The categories, weights, and assignments from the template remain, but can be deleted or modified.
Removing the exclusions for the template on the Gradebook Templates screen will restore the template in the Gradebook. See Using the Excl Link for more information.
